The Benefits of Talking Therapies

How a talking therapy can help.

Sometimes it is easier for a young person to talk to a stranger than to their relatives or friends.

During the intervention, I will listen to the young person and help them find their own answers to their issues, without judging them.

I will give them time to talk, cry, shout or just think. It's an opportunity to look at their problems in a different way with someone who'll respect them and their opinions.

I'll talk one-to-one with the young person, usually done face-to-face, but we might be able to talk over the phone, via email or Zoom.

Although there are many different types of intervention, they all have a similar aim: to help the young person feel better.

Some young people have said that the interventions don't make their problems go away, but they find it easier to cope with them and feel happier.
